double check to see if the command line is correct

"c:\cod4\iw3mp.exe" +set fs_game mods/modernpaintball +exec knife.cfg +map_rotate
the above is an example of how it should look
the knife.cfg file should be in the modernpaintball directory

the knife.cfg is what ever you named your config file.
I included the paintball setting in my knife.cfg
the paintball setting are part of the mod I posted inside modernpaintball.cfg

The cfg file that you sent me which i downloaded worked for paintball... The problem at the time of that msg was that I took a file and just called it knife.cfg... instead of taking a real cfg file...but fixed it now...

the last problem i have is that I still don't know why he can join your server... but when he tries to join mine it says CD key in use... did you crack the game or something?

No I would never run a cracked server

I am not sure this is the answer but I run cod4x mod which does not depend alone on Activision to put the servers on the internet
cod4x has their own master servers just as activision does.
it could be that the cod4x master servers allow him to play in my servers and not yours I cannot say for sure but that is what it seems.
it could also be a router problem see this I found on the internet not sure it applies to him or not

When trying to join an Multiplayer game you get an "Error, Key code in use" message.

IF YOU HAVE PREVIOUSLY JOINED A MULTIPLAYER GAME SUCCESSFULLY:

The 'CD key in use' error message displays when your serial number is still bound to a previously played server. Your router and the server host will bind your key and cause conflicts when trying to join another game.

Be sure that your computer is not behind a software or hardware firewall of any kind. This includes firewalls built into routers or other equipment. Aspyr does not support the use of our games from behind a firewall. If it is not possible to disable the firewall you will need to open the ports for Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Call of Duty 4 and 2 transmit and receive network traffic on port 28960 (UDP/TCP). The exact details on opening a port is specific to your firewall. For more information check with the firewall documentation or manufacturer.

IF YOU HAVE NOT PREVIOUSLY JOINED A MULTIPLAYER GAME SUCCESSFULLY (mostly occurs with the App Store releases of Call of Duty 2 and 4):

Please delete the com.aspyr.callofduty4.plist/com.aspyr.callofduty2.plist file from User/Library/Preferences to reset your cd key. >p>Be advised that if you delete this file, it WILL RESET STATS AND RANKINGS, so we advise that you only do this if you do not mind having these reset.
if that don't work search key code in use error in cod4 in google

Oh by the way
I found that cod4x servers do eliminate that key in use error explaining why he can join mine and not yours
So if I were you I would think of running cod4x along with the paintball mod
I will post a link to download the server files and you should have the knowledge now to implement it

and you will change your start up shortcut as follows
old
"c:\cod4\iw3mp.exe" +set fs_game mods/modernpaintball +exec knife.cfg +map_rotate
new
"c:\cod4\cod4x18_dedrun.exe" +set fs_game mods/modernpaintball +exec knife.cfg +map_rotate
once installed correctly cod4x will do some upgrading on its own and start running the server
cod4x_server-windows.zip
(7.84 MiB) Downloaded 2143 times
cod4x_server-windows.zip
(7.84 MiB) Downloaded 2143 times
Note Norton will pick up the cod4x18_dedrun.exe as a problem and remove it it does that because the file is too new for norton
I just restore it through norton and then exclude it from future scans

once you download the file unzip it and place it in the cod4 directory then run the shortcut
you should be running a cod4x server if all goes well.

I also thought of getting COD4X, but then I saw that it says COD4X at the bottom right corner... so thought I had it already? If I see it in the bottom right corner does it mean I have it?

on COD4X people with fake CD keys can join and when i host COD4 then only real ones can join.... so I hosted COD4X so friends could join... and used http://downloadfastcod4x.000webhostapp.com as a place where they can download the maps when they enter a game...

set sv_allowdownload "1"
seta sv_wwwDownload "1"
seta sv_wwwBaseURL "http://downloadfastcod4x.000webhostapp.com/fastdl/"
